Ratnil Shrivastava is an urban planner with over 10 years of experience spanning urban planning research and consultancy, academia, and real estate research and business development. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from MANIT, Bhopal; a Master’s degree in Planning with a specialisation in Housing from CEPT University, Ahmedabad; and is currently pursuing an MSc in Urban Analytics at the University of Glasgow. Over the course of his career, he has worked with a range of private-sector and educational institutions, engaging in real estate consulting, teaching, academic programme development, research supervision, and, most notably, consultancy and research projects that have contributed to urban and regional planning practice in India and internationally.
Prior to joining CUPP, he served as a full-time Assistant Professor at the Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University, where he was a founding faculty member of the B.Plan programme. In this role, he was instrumental in designing, establishing, and delivering multiple courses since the programme’s inception, while also managing several academic and administrative portfolios. He supervised planning studios at various scales and guided research theses focusing on urban governance, housing markets, and infrastructure planning. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he was actively involved in research and consultancy projects across multiple domains, including policy and strategic advisory, urban master planning and development frameworks, infrastructure, transport and mobility planning, eco-tourism and sustainable development, and the preparation of RFP and tender documents for various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). As part of his industry experience, he also led and managed teams conducting pan-India real estate and infrastructure market studies, city reports, and white papers for consulting and advisory clients.
At CUPP, he works as an Urban Planner, contributing to the formulation of planning strategies for the Bhopal Metropolitan Region, with a strong emphasis on stakeholder consultations and engagement with multiple government organisations. His key areas of interest include urban strategic advisory with a focus on sustainability, spatial planning, infrastructure planning, urban governance and management, housing studies, public policy innovation and formulation, and data-driven urban analytics. He strongly believes in continuous learning and is passionate about adopting and excelling in new technologies as required. He is a recipient of the Turing Scheme Scholarship (2023) and was an exchange student at Aalto University, Finland. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Town Planners, India (ITPI).
