In the decades after Independence, India witnessed an extraordinary burst of building - and Modernist architecture became the face of a new, forward-looking democracy. The ambition showed up not just in cities, but in cinema too, where towering infrastructure projects and glass-walled offices symbolised progress, open-mindedness, and a society in transformation.
