Dr. Shivangi S. Somvanshi, Centre Head, Centre for Applied Geomatics (CAG), CRDF, delivered a session on “Geospatial Technologies for Flood Risk Mapping and Monitoring” as part of a training programme on Flood Risk Mitigation and Management.
The programme was organized by the Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) for newly recruited engineers of the Government of Gujarat’s Narmada, Water Resources & Water Supply Department.
The session focused on the application of satellite and radar imagery for flood mapping, GIS-based vulnerability assessment, AI/ML-driven predictive modelling, and international case studies demonstrating best practices. Practical approaches for integrating geospatial insights into planning and policy frameworks were also discussed.
The training underscored the critical role of geospatial technologies in strengthening disaster preparedness and building more resilient communities through informed, data-driven decision-making.
