By 2050, 68% of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas (source: UN-DESA, 2018). The cities are witnessing rapid growth. Hence, the challenges for the urban government are also increasing. The challenge is to supply the basic facilities, services and resources; clean water, sufficient energy, safe food, hygienic environment keeping economic, social and environmental sustainability. The smart cities must promise efficient provisions for infrastructure services and facilities and safety and security of the citizens. Hence, being Smart is a need of time!
Smart Data is the driving factor to Smart Cities. Smart data is digital information platform for data consolidation and analytics which includes use of Internet of Things, Machine Learning and Data Science, succors the environment and resources, thereby increasing the quality of life. The robust Smart Data ecosystem, if implemented, can be a game changer for making the Governance Smart.
