Ekatra: Spinning the Wheel Together brings forth the idea of co-creation and community innovation to develop a contemporary design using traditional craft skills. The exhibition shares the process and outcomes of the four-year-long craft design innovation initiative undertaken in collaboration with the artisans and families belonging to the terracotta craft cluster of Gundiyali village.
The exhibition displays the outcomes of a range of project undertaken by Design Innovation and Craft Resource Center (DICRC) and Manthan Educational Programme Society, India under the i-STED project supported by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Ekatra shares a range of traditional and contemporary products, design thinking models for craft cluster, the key interventions in relation to the upgrading of infrastructure, designing and providing suitable technology for craft production and marketing, spatial reconfiguration of crafts units and thus bringing a concept of transforming a craft cluster to a craft experiential tourism hub.
This exhibition also provides a special focus on a range of products co-created by the artisans and designers as the output of the first ever Craft CoLABorative Fellowship undertaken under the initiative.
This exhibition is curated with the hope to reinforce the value and rediscover the potential of the craft while increasing the artisans market reach.
