Among the several existential challenges faced by the urban mobility sector, parking appears to be one of the most complex ones. For long cities have focused on making places accessible to cars and making public transport, walking, and cycling inaccessible while inducing more traffic. In Indian cities, parking demand has amplified significantly with an exponential increase in vehicular traffic during the last decade.
This Mobilogue is a part of the National Capacity Building Programme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and is jointly organized by GIZ India and CRDF, CEPT University. The Mobilogue aims to demystify parking management in the Indian context. The presenters will discuss the existing challenges, opportunities, role of policy, and best practice learnings to enabling efficient and sustainable parking management for Indian cities.
The mobilogue will focus on:
The basic concepts of parking management.
The current state of parking in India and challenges in bringing parking management into practice.
The significance of improving efficiency rather than increasing the supply of parking.
Role of stakeholders and policymaking in enabling an efficient and sustainable parking management system.
