Workshop on Climate Action, Built and Cultural Heritage in Indian Cities

As a part of the Project ‘Climate Action, Built and Cultural Heritage in Indian Cities’, a consortium of three organisations, Cultural Resource Conservation Initiative (CRCI India Pvt. Ltd.), Center for Heritage Conservation, CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CHC, CRDF) and Urban Design Collective (UDC) is preparing a ‘Toolkit for Climate Action for Built and Cultural Heritage’ for the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), India.

To get relevant feedback within this process of preparation of the framework for the toolkit and regarding how it would work in the context of an urban local body, a full-day workshop was organised on 20th February 2024 at CEPT University with members of Ahmedabad World Heritage City Trust, Heritage Conservation Committee and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation along with experts directly or indirectly associated with heritage, archaeology, urban planning, environment, and climate science, etc. Representatives from the Physical Research Laboratory and Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Govt. of Gujarat also attended the workshop.

The workshop began with introductory sessions about the project, the context of existing initiatives related to climate change and cultural heritage, and the draft toolkit. This was followed by interactive sessions with the participants for feedback, suggestions, and discussions on different sections of the toolkit.
