The grand award ceremony of the Global Cooling Prize (GCP) was held on 29th April 2021.  Team Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai with partner Tsinghua University and team Daikin with partner Nikken Sekkie Ltd. are the two joint winners of the $1 million prize of the competition.   The winning entries possess the potential to deliver cooling with at least 5X lower climate impact than the typical cooling unit used in Indian residences.  Started in November 2018, the competition saw participation by 445 teams from 56 countries.

GCP defined stringent testing methods to evaluate the performance of eight (8) selected finalist prototypes.  The Center for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE), CRDF, CEPT University, conducted a rigorous performance evaluation of these finalist prototypes at the state-of-the-art laboratory set up at CEPT University.  CARBSE also evaluated the performance of these finalist prototypes in a real apartment block located in NCR (National Capital Region) by installing prototypes. The Technical Review Committee comprising of international experts reviewed the performance measurements by CARBSE to select the winners of the competition.
