In the context of ongoing digital transformation and increasing adoption of technology-driven governance, modern surveying and geospatial technologies have become essential for strengthening land administration systems. Accurate land records, efficient spatial planning, and transparent governance require the integration of advanced surveying tools, GIS platforms, and digital land management frameworks.

Recognizing this need, the Center for Applied Geomatics in collaboration with  Centre of Excellence in Land Administration and Management (CoE), DISRA, Government of Gujarat & Survey of India (Gujarat) organized a 5-day Training Programme on “Surveying and Geospatial Technologies in Land Governance” from 9th to 13th March 2026 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The programme was designed to enhance the technical competencies and institutional capacities of higher level officials involved in land administration and related sectors.

The training adopted a comprehensive approach combining classroom-based theoretical sessions, technical demonstrations, practical exercises, and field exposure. Participants received hands-on training on GNSS, DGPS, Electronic Total Station (ETS), drone-based surveys, GIS applications, spatial analysis, and geospatial data workflows. Sessions also covered emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and LandStack as a decision-support systems in land governance.

A key highlight of the programme was its focus on bridging traditional land administration practices with modern digital technologies. Interactive discussions, group activities, and case-based learning enabled participants to explore practical solutions for issues such as cadastral mapping, land dispute resolution, and integration of survey, registration, and revenue data.

The programme brought together experts and resource persons from the Survey of India, academic institutions, and industry organizations, providing participants with practical insights and exposure to real-world applications. Overall, the initiative contributed significantly towards strengthening institutional capacity, promoting technological adoption, and advancing efficient, transparent, and technology-driven land governance systems in line with national priorities.
