Barjor Mehta Joined as President CEPT University

As CEPT University transitions into a new era of leadership, we welcome Mr Barjor Mehta as the new President and Acting Director. We extend our warmest greetings to Mr Mehta as he takes on the role of Chairperson of the CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF).

He brings with him extensive global expertise and a rich legacy in urban planning and development, which will greatly benefit CEPT and CRDF. His tenure as the Lead Urban Specialist at the World Bank has provided him with valuable insights that will further the mission of CRDF.

At the same time, we express our sincere appreciation to Dr Bimal Patel, who has led CEPT since 2012. Under his guidance, CEPT has achieved remarkable success and has evolved into a premier institution for human habitat studies. Dr Patel's steadfast dedication to excellence will continue to serve as an inspiration for future generations of professionals.

Mr Mehta (FA UG ’74), an alumnus, is an architect and urban planner who served as the World Bank’s Lead Urban Specialist for East Asia & the Pacific Region in Singapore before joining CEPT. His previous roles included assignments in China, India, Tanzania, and Washington DC, where he worked on urban development initiatives across various regions. Before joining the World Bank, he was an Associate Professor of urban planning and Director of the School of Planning at CEPT University. He also gained planning experience in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan, and the United States.

His educational background includes a Diploma in Architecture from the School of Architecture, CEPT, and a Master’s in Human Settlements Planning from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.
