The Low Energy Cooling Test Bed (LECTB) infrastructure established by the Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE), CRDF at CEPT University is now accredited by the National Accreditation Board of Laboratories (NABL) for testing energy performance of room air conditioners as per Indian Standard 1391. LETCB is the only facility accredited by NABL that confirms ISO 17025 and is part of an academic institution in India. LECTB is also capable of characterising cooling technologies for their energy and thermal comfort performance under varied and dynamic outdoor conditions. The facility is one of its kind in the world and is technology agnostic, allowing it to test diverse and new technologies, unlike other facilities. in India.

The facility will be used to support Government policies under India Cooling Action Plan, especially for the ‘Thermal Comfort for All’ program and the ‘Air Conditioning Standards and Labelling Program’ and will also facilitate research and development activities undertaken by Industry. LETCB played a significant role during the ‘Global Cooling Prize’ by identifying room air conditioning technologies that are 5 times climate-friendly and 80% more efficient than the current technologies available in the market.
