CHC is pleased to announce a new milestone for the CEPT Conservation Site Schools program: Kalidas Jethabhai House, Dharmaj, as it becomes the first Site School to reach the phase of conservation and regeneration. The process of Conservation-led Design for the site commenced in July in collaboration with BandukSmith Studio and Maya and Meeta Patel of the Kalidas Jethabhai family.
Initial stages of work included the structural assessment of wooden members in the front wing with Mehul Shah and his team and discussions on program development and conceptual design directions for architectural intervention with BandukSmith studio.
As part of this engagement, CHC has taken up primary responsibility for conserving the front wing, organizing training and capacity-building for local contractors and workers, facilitating community consultation, creating records for knowledge dissemination, and providing inputs for the new design and construction at the site.
