Center for Heritage Conservation (CHC) has an ongoing collaboration with Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) on research, educational and scientific cooperation for conservation of tribal heritage.

Jayashree Bardhan, Program Lead for Assessment and Training at CHC conducted a session introducing ‘Heritage Mapping’ to the Samvaad Fellows at Samvaad Residency 2024 held at Bhasha Adivasi Academy at Tejgarh, Gujarat from 29th to 31st January 2024. The input session was followed by an interactive workshop with the Fellows on understanding heritage mapping in context of their individual projects.

At the residency, Bhakti Savsani and Arya Renu Baburaj, recent graduates of the Master’s Programme in Architectural History and Research (MAHR) shared their experiences of fieldwork at sites in Jharkhand with the Fellows. Both the graduates had conducted fieldwork in 2023 as a part of their Directed Research Projects under CHC and TSF’s collaboration. Their research was supervised by Jayashree Bardhan and their fieldwork was supported by the team from TSF under the guidance of Jiren Xavier Topno and Ankita Toppo.

Samvaad Fellowship, an initiative of TSF is an attempt to encourage community-led action research on tribal culture and heritage. Samvaad Residency is designed for continuous learning and knowledge exchange for the Samvaad Fellowship cohort.
