A two-day capacity building programme was organised by the Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport (CoE-UT) under the SMART-SUT program by GIZ on bus electrification and bus priority for Indian cities. This event was attended by 50 participants from 10 cities, predominantly from transit authorities. The first day focused on policy level interventions and strategies for upscaling E-bus operations in the cities. The Ahmedabad's electrification strategy and action plan developed with AMC and CoE-UT under the UKPACT project was also discussed. A session on contract management for E-bus procurement and its operations covered the experiences and learnings from e-bus procurement across various cities in India.
The second day focused on bus priority concepts, typical designs, conceptual design for case cities, network and corridor identification, stops rationalisation and overall benefits assessment thorough bus priority measures. The E-TRAM tool focusing on operation performance monitoring and bus priority benefit assessment tool developed by CoE-UT under the GIZ SMART-SUT project were also presented. KSRTC Trivandrum team also shared their experience of using the E-TRAM tool for operations monitoring and how this has helped in making informed decisions in bus operations planning.
