The Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) in Wai and Sinnar cities in Maharashtra, supported by the Center of Water and Sanitation (CWAS), CRDF are the first ones in the state and are hailed as 'model' facilities. Since their launch, they have received visitors and researchers from across India and abroad and have now been developed as “Sanitation Resource Centres”. As part of the same initiative, solar panels have been installed at both FSTPs and have been connected to the grid. Now, both are en-route to becoming “net energy positive” by generating more electricity than needed for their own operations.
