Center for Water and Sanitation (CWAS), received the '9th edition of FICCI Water Awards' in Urban Wastewater Management category for its work in Maharashtra. The award was conferred on CWAS for projects on citywide inclusive sanitation in the cities of Wai and Sinnar. CWAS is working on projects in the two cities since 2013. CWAS, with the Wai and Sinnar municipal council, achieved scheduled emptying, treatment and reuse of used water, monitoring through IT enabling mechanisms, etc with the help of local community groups. These projects are funded under Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and HSBC. On Day 2, Dr. Dinesh Mehta of CWAS joined a discussion for "Enhancing Private Sector Engagement in Urban Water and Wastewater Management" by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and FICCI at the 7th India Industry Water Conclave. He shared experiences from the work in Maharashtra and elaborated on the efforts and next steps.
