Dr. Shalini Sinha, Executive Director, Center of Excellence in Urban Transport (CoE-UT) delivered a talk during the Modelling World International Conference 2021. During the session ‘Challenges for the current state of modelling practice in India,’ Dr. Sinha focused on the modelling challenges in the urban sector. She discussed data challenges and data-creation exercises which consume time due to non-standardised data models for urban areas. Dr. Sinha also proposed suggestions such as leveraging existing data sources and the need for an open data platform. Another important suggestion Dr. Sinha made is ensuring coordination between land use and transport plans. Speaking on technological barriers, she mentioned the existing global North-centric software and the need for modifying it for developing economies like India.
