Dr. Shalini Sinha, Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Urban Transport (CoE-UT), CRDF, delivered a talk on ‘Cab Aggregator Operations in India – A Regulatory Dilemma’.  The event took place on 26th March 2021 as part of the World Conference on Transportation Research Society (WCTRS) Webinar Series.

Cab aggregator companies such as Ola and Uber started operations in India a decade ago.  While these companies through their technology solutions brought out efficiencies by directly connecting users to service providers, the absence of regulatory measures led to issues of commuter safety, crowding out of existing market players and unsteady incomes for aggregator cab service providers.  In this session, Dr. Shalini discussed the impacts of aggregator cab operations on the overall mobility ecosystem in India and highlighted the need for a policy response towards regulating these operations.
