Jay Thakkar, Executive Director, DICRC, was invited for a panel discussion as part of the webinar titled ‘Impact & Action: How the Pandemic has Affected Experiential Events’ hosted by Fashion Revolution India in association with British Council India. The discussion assessed how the global pandemic has changed the ways in which we facilitate events and platforms, that have traditionally been tactical and sensory experiences. He largely spoke about the project ‘Celebrating Clay: Generating new forms of cultural production for craft experiential tourism’ as part of the British Council - Crafting Futures India UK Collaboration Scheme. Thakkar spoke about how before the pandemic they were able to collect stories, work with the Terracotta craft cluster in Gundiyali, Gujarat and build narratives.

The pandemic changed the original residency to Digital Knowledge Exchange program. This transition to the digital space, was supported by the craftspeople and the dialogue carried on with exchange of stories, knowledge and ideas. The ‘Celebrating Clay’ project is a successful initiative by DICRC in terms of digital knowledge sharing and industrial prosperity in these challenging times and will foster new developments and understanding of the traditional crafts with new dimensions and synergies.
