Prof. Shivanand Swamy discusses scope of electric vehicles in Gujarat

Prof. Shivanand Swamy, Director Emeritus, Center of Excellence in Urban Transport (CoE-UT) delivered a talk on ‘Unlocking the Billion-Dollar EV Opportunity for Gujarat.’ The webinar was hosted by the Natural Resources Defense Council’s (NRDC) India Program in association with Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) and the Center of Excellence in Urban Transport (CoE-UT). 

Prof. Swamy discussed the state policy’s role in EV (Electric Vehicle) adoption in Gujarat and the state’s focus on manufacturing to accelerate demand and become a leader.  He also emphasized the air quality challenges in the state and how the adoption of EVs can mitigate issues.  "There is a big financial benefit to accrue now on comparing the prices of rising diesel prices & falling prices of batteries. Gujarat given its manufacturing focus, proactive state policies, Gujarat is expected to be an earlier mover on EVs," Prof. Swamy said.
