Ramit Raunak, Research Associate at COE-UT (Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport), CEPT Research and Development Foundation, CEPT University delivers a talk on ‘Electrification of Public Transport in India’ held on 24th October 2020. The talk is part of ‘Theory to Practice’ webinar series organized by Sustainancy Consultants Pvt. Ltd. As part of this session, Ramit discusses different aspects involved in the electrification of bus transport such as policy framework, technology, feasibility, business models, and experience of operating electric buses in various Indian cities.

The lecture focuses on electric buses and the potential of India becoming a global leader. Currently, around 600 electric buses are operating in more than 10 Indian cities successfully. The webinar highlights the experience of STUs (State Transport Undertakings), OEMs (Original, Equipment Manufacturer), Operators in planning, operating and managing e-buses that Ramit carried out as part of the Directed Research project in collaboration with GIZ and CoE-UT. Other focused topics that are discussed in the lecture are policy-level recommendations, planning of routes, selection of appropriate technology, and role of technical and financial capacity of city-level transport authorities in a smooth transition to e-buses from conventional ones.
