Sinnar and Wai Municipal Councils Recognised at Times EarthCare Awards
The 11th EarthCare Awards recognises the significant contributions of Sinnar and Wai Municipal Councils in the field of climate change management.
Sinnar Municipal Council (SMC) is awarded under the category ‘Enablers of Urban Centered Climate Change Management’ for their initiative, ‘Climate Responsive Sanitation Services in Sinnar’. This initiative has made significant strides in managing sanitation services in a climate-responsive manner.
Similarly, Wai Municipal Council (WMC) is recognised for their initiative ‘Enhancing the Urban Environment by Embracing an Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Approach to Sanitation’. This initiative has shown how urban environments can be improved through inclusive and climate-resilient sanitation practices.
The Times of India report highlighted that both councils were awarded as enablers for implementing an efficient faecal sludge management system for urban-centred climate management. Sinnar and Wai cities are supported by the Center for Water and Sanitation (CWAS) for multiple sanitation and WASH related activities.
