To address current challenges related to the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs), the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, is implementing the Promotion of Transformation to Sustainable and Climate-Friendly E-mobility project. This initiative is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the Indo-German Green Urban Mobility Partnership (GUMP). As part of this effort, GIZ has assigned the study Climate-Friendly Electric Mobility Transition, Implementation, and Knowledge Dissemination for Surat to the Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport, CRDF. This one-and-a-half-year project was initiated in December 2023.
This study aims to develop and disseminate an e-mobility transition plan for public transport and intermediate public transport in Surat City. Given this, the following objectives for the study are outlined:
To formulate a plan for the electrification of the public transport system in Surat
To prepare a toolkit for designing a green electric depot, taking the case of an existing depot in Surat
To develop a strategy for electrifying intermediate public transport modes, i.e., three-wheelers in the city.
To undertake capacity-building activities for the dissemination of key project outputs
