This project, initiated by CWAS in three cities of Maharashtra, is funded by a CSR grant from HSBC. It aims to implement improvements across the WASH service chain to achieve climate resilience. Key ideas for energy transition include the use of solar energy for operating water/wastewater networks, treatment plants and electrification of suction trucks. Further reduction in emissions is envisaged by carbon sequestration by urban forests through the reuse of treated waste. The project also focuses on climate adaptation for vulnerable and marginalized communities through a citywide inclusive sanitation approach, which focuses on equitable access to services, livelihood development and gender empowerment.

For scaling up these initiatives, CWAS has also signed a MoU for engaging with the Department of Environment and Climate Change at the Government of Maharashtra to develop action plans for climate-responsive urban water supply and sanitation in cities of Maharashtra.
