Improving Urban Environment in Satara

The Center for Water and Sanitation received a CSR grant from the HT Parekh Foundation as part of Phase 2 activities in Satara City. While Phase 1 focused on citywide faecal sludge and septage management, Phase 2 focused on improving the city's urban environment by enhancing infrastructure investments at the solid waste management / faecal sludge treatment plant (FSTP) site. The improvements involved the development of carbon sinks through urban forest plantation, installation of solar infrastructure for making the FSTP energy neutral, development of a facility-cum-training centre for the safety of sanitation workers, and enhancement of FSTP capacity by installing a mechanical dewatering unit.
