CARBSE

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has recognized CARBSE as a Center for Excellence in Solar Passive Architecture and Green Building Technologies. The MNRE supported the Center’s activities for a duration of five years from 2011 to 2016. The specific objectives for the project duration were to enhance knowledge and develop a database of construction materials and practices for energy efficient buildings in India.

As part of the project, CARBSE developed a database for energy efficient built environment in India including generating indigenized guidelines, codes and standards. CARBSE also established testing facilities and protocols to characterize materials including glass and mirrors for their thermo-physical-optical properties. One of the most significant outcomes of the project support was the establishment of the Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB), a living laboratory to demonstrate concepts of green architecture and integration of renewable energy systems, and house the Center’s activities.

The project also facilitated implementation of GRIHA, ECBC and other codes and labeling program for Fenestration, Insulation and Solar Thermal products. It led to development of several capacity building programs and knowledge material and e-lectures on the subject.
