Sustainable Sanitation Services at Scale in India - Swachh Maharashtra Mission

The Center for Water And Sanitation (CWAS) carried out capacity building to make cities Open Defecation Free (ODF). This project was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) between 2016 and 2019. In the first phase of this support, the Government of Maharashtra successfully declared all cities in the state to be Open Defecation Free. CWAS also provided implementation policy support and developed resource materials. Sustaining this status, we planned for citywide Faecal Sludge and Septage Management services.
