The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) partnered with CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) to conduct ‘Specialized Training on local Area Planning and Town Planning Schemes.’ These training started in January 2018 and was completed in June 2018.

Focused on Town Planners, these specialized training had five such programs on LAP (Local Area Planning) and TPS (Town Planning Scheme) formulation that was organized to transform urban development across India.  A total of 153 town planners from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and many more states joined the five (5) training sessions conducted from January 2018 to June 2018.

The first site visit was conducted at Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) wherein the AUDA officials presented and discussions happened over the implementation of TPS in Ahmedabad.  The second site visit on 18th January 2018 took place in areas like Prahlad Nagar, Ring Road, Koba in Ahmedabad.  These areas were used as a case study to inform town planners about the implementation of TPS in these areas.

The training sessions also engaged participants with a hands-on exercise that enabled their understanding of the physical and financial aspects of the schemes.  It tasked the participants to develop a TPS draft wherein they drew a conceptual plan and later explained the plans to the trainers.  Participants found the training highly effective and the general feedback of the training was about the quality of training that enhanced the knowledge and skills of the town planners.
